Ensuring the safety and well-being of students is a top priority for any school, which is why first aid training for school staff is critical. At ER Training, we offer fully accredited, practical first aid courses tailored specifically for schools.
Why First Aid for Schools is Essential
Schools have a dual responsibility for the welfare of both pupils and staff. With a diverse group of children and young adults, as well as teachers and ancillary staff, the likelihood of accidents and medical emergencies increases. Whether it’s a minor injury, an asthma attack, a seizure, or a more serious incident, it’s vital that someone on-site is equipped with the knowledge and skills to respond effectively.
Our First Aid for Schools course is designed to address these unique challenges, providing school staff with the confidence and competence to handle medical emergencies.
What are the First Aid Requirements for Schools?
Under UK regulations, schools must ensure the welfare of both adults and children in their care. The latest guidelines from the UK Resus Council (updated in September 2021) state that schools must have first aiders who are trained in both Paediatric First Aid (for children) and Adult First Aid.
Paediatric First Aid: This is a legal requirement for those working with children, especially in early years or nursery settings. Our First Aid for Schools course meets this requirement and can be upgraded with additional eLearning to qualify for the Full Paediatric First Aid for those working in these settings.
Adult First Aid: Schools must also have qualified adult first aiders, as per the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Department for Education (DfE) requirements. This includes having qualified Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) certificate holders which this course includes.
OFSTED Criteria: For schools that fall under OFSTED regulation, our course ensures compliance with their specific first aid requirements. By addressing both Paediatric and Adult First Aid needs, ER Training helps schools fulfil their statutory obligations while ensuring the safety of all students and staff.
